Black Lab Puppies – An Energetic Four-Legged Friend

The Labrador Retriever dog line, also known as the Lab dog, is a breed of dog kept quite a lot in the US. And black lab puppies are the most popular.

Indigenous people often raise them to retrieve prey from their owners in hunting. Although listed as a hunting dog, the Labrador is very gentle, friendly, and easy to get along with.

With a good nose, smart face, and easy training, they are kept for search and rescue and security purposes.

Origin

The Labrador is a breed that retrieves prey for its owner. The name Labrador is Portuguese for “worker.” In the past, they were often kept indoors by Portuguese and Newfoundland fishermen.

They are energetic, trainable, lovable, and trustworthy breeds. Labradors, in particular, are excellent with youngsters, are easy to get along with, and enjoy being in the company of others. The Labrador is a dog that many American families adore and deem a part of the family because of the benefits. Other dogs like Havanese or Maltese also are energetic and friendly with people.

The Labrador retriever is a Canadian breed that originated in Newfoundland. Here, fishers teach them how to fish. Since they often leap from fisherman’s boats into cold water and drag nets to assist anglers, Labradors are extremely immune to cold.

British merchant fleets selected them to transport them back to England in the 1800s. And it is here that they are being prepared to become the current Labrador Retriever. They were shipped from the United Kingdom to the United States between 1920 and 1930, and within a few years, the “boom” in Labrador dogs began in the United States.

Black is their prevalent color. Besides, yellow lab and chocolate lab puppies are the two familiar types. Those colors were not popular until the 90s. As before, any pups other than black got euthanized right at birth.

Their feathers are waterproof, odorless, and do not cause allergies to the respiratory system. Labrador’s jaws are strong enough to bring back prey. Their eyes are usually only two colors, brown and chestnut.

  • Height and Weight: As an adult, Labrador weighs about 27 to 34 kg and is between 55-60 cm tall with males, while females are lighter, between 25 and 32 kg, and between 52 and 58 cm tall.
  • Color: Nowadays, Labrador comes in various colors, but mainly silver, gold, black, and chocolate, with black being dominant. If you’re into dark color doggies, Rottweiler puppies are also the most sought-after.
  • Head and nose: Labrador’s head is broad, has a long square snout, and has strong jaws with many sharp teeth that can handle large prey. The large Labrador nose, usually chocolate or black, is extremely sensitive to odors and can detect prey hundreds of meters away.

Moreover, Dalmatians also can get on well with people, especially children.  They are smart and obedient, so they are quite easy to train. In addition to their ability to sniff, they are trained to assist people who are blind and disabled. Intelligence

The Lab dog’s brain structure will help them understand many of the owner’s requirements. The Lab dog is on the list of the ten most intelligent dog breeds in the world. You will not need more than five repetitions of command for them to understand and follow. Even the first time you give the order, they are 95% more likely to get it right.

Being smart also means this breed of dog is extremely friendly. They know what is right to do. So they can play with young children without causing any danger. Lab dogs are sociable and friendly with many other dogs.

Temperament

Like other breeds of dogs, the Black Lab is a freedom-loving breed, so it should not be chained too much. They are quite calm in human assignments. When they lose contact with their employer, they will not panic but will continue to perform the owner’s job earlier. You can see this characteristic more regularly in the olden days when they were retrieving fish for the owner. Swimming far away from the boat, Lab pups can still finish their job calmly.

Despite having strong jaws, Labrador is quite gentle in bringing prey to its owner. They usually hold the prey in their mouth very lightly so that there are no teeth marks on the prey.

Care

Taking care of a Lab friend consists of 5 aspects: grooming, diet, training, habitat, and heath. Each of these aspects is important to know before you get a puppy.

Because our puppies are black, we don’t need any special grooming. Still, you should brush and bathe them periodically once a week because their feathers are quite short and do not shed much.

Indeed, black lab puppies are among the easiest coat-caring breed as the coat is designed to take care of its own. Black lab, teacup pomeranian, and teacup poodle are among the shed-free puppies. In contrast, Shih Tzu puppies are light shedders.

As for any dog, tooth brushing and nail trimming are advisable for a healthy pup.

Diet

Owners should feed them at a specific time, periodically change the water three times a day, and clean their eating utensils. Labrador dogs are easy to keep and are not fussy eaters, so as long as they have a balanced diet, they will develop comprehensively in both health and physique. Labrador’s food should contain enough protein, fat, calcium, vitamins, and minerals.

In particular, when Labrador is six months old or older, the diet needs to increase and add a variety of nutritious foods such as meat, eggs, vegetables, bones, animal organs, etc., to provide enough nutrients. Labrador dogs in adulthood can chew on the tube bone and eat whole meat to help strengthen teeth.

Training

Labrador is very intelligent, so he can learn many skills, from basic to advanced. Shaking hands, standing, lying, crawling, sitting, doing math, obstacle crossing, playing dead, keeping house, opening doors, babysitting, leading the disabled, etc., are easy for Lab dogs. During training, the trainer should pay attention to the following:

  • Do not force Labrador or act violently.
  • Develop a menu suitable for their needs.
  • Give Labrador the freedom to exercise. Working out will prevent them from getting stressed.

Because Labrador is a predatory breed, they love to run, love to sport, and take them out regularly. Have them play games like catching discs, catching balls, and swimming for comprehensive physical training.

Habitat

The Labrador is a breed that does not like confined spaces and does not like being locked in cages, so it is suitable for home garden families. They especially love to go for walks. If you don’t have much time, find some toys for them to chew on or find a dog sitter. Unlike Black Lab, Pugs are a low-energy breed, so Pugs are too lazy to walk or be friends with people. Lab dogs can live in cramped city apartments, although that will make them less agile.

Health And Usual Diseases

Labrador is considered to be a very healthy breed with few diseases. So keeping them is not difficult at all. However, there are some common things that they suffer from, such as allergies, stomach twists, flatulence, etc. Even taking care of a Labrador can also be enjoyable because it is so cute and adorable.

Conclusion

Above is everything about Black Lab puppies. How did you feel about them? They will be a smart, loyal and loving friend. If you are wondering what to adopt as a pet, then a black Labrador is a great option.
